[Video+Photo] Tears In Owerri, Imo State As Stray Bullet Kills Little Boy During Clashes Between Police and Market Traders Over The Demolition Of The Popular Eke Onuwa Market

Traders and youths of Ekeukwu market in Owerri, the Imo State capital have clashed with security operatives over directives given by the state government on the relocation of the market. The market relocation has been a major issue between the Imo state government and traders of the market as well as some which indigenes of Owerri who see the location of the market as their ancestral home. The traders rejected this move and have taken the state government to court over this issue.

On Friday, the Imo state Governor Issued a press statement signed by the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Kingsley Uju, stating that traders in the market should move out within 48 hours after the release of the statement.
Report says a little boy was killed by a stray bullet after police officers supervising the demolition of Eke Ukwu market in Owerri in Imo state, shot into the air to disperse angry traders that attacked them this morning. Armed police officers accompanied the trucks that came to carry out the demolition of the market.

The angry traders threw sticks and stones at the police officers, forcing the officers to fire gunshots into the air to disperse them. Sadly, one of the bullets landed on the deceased. Two more persons have been confirmed dead.
